According to the input voltage

The strip lights is made up of many lamp beads of the same specification, spliced by different numbers of series and parallel. Then, different numbers of series and parallel, as well as circuit schemes, will make the strip lights have different input voltages.

Mainly divided into the following categories:

High voltage 220V

High voltage light strips are common light strips in daily life. Generally, they are in the form of a very long bundle, ranging from 50 to 100 meters; basically, they are all filled with glue, and can be cut by meter at will (now there are high voltage light strips cut by 100mm), with a power supply head, a tail cover, connected to the mains, and can be used normally.

The high voltage strip lights consists of wires on both sides and a flexible light board in the middle. The high voltage strip lights is used to transmit high voltage electricity; and the flexible light board of each unit is strung together according to a certain number, and the current is limited by resistors, and then spliced to the wires on both sides.

The power supply head has a small protrusion, which is actually a bridge pile, a device used to convert AC high voltage electricity into DC electricity. Generally, the rated current setting of the bridge pile cannot be exceeded, otherwise it is easy to burn out.

The advantages of high-voltage light strips are:

One power supply, up to 50-100 meters long.
With a power supply head, it can be directly connected to the mains.
Although most of them can only be cut by whole meters, it is enough.
These features are exactly what electricians and installers like. Simple composition and easy installation. However, there are many disadvantages.

Disadvantages:

For whole-meter cutting, some positions that need precise cutting are either not long enough or folded up, uneven brightness, and easy to cause burnout.
Although the wiring is convenient, because it is directly connected to the mains, there is no driver protection. Therefore, some surge currents, peak voltages and other grid pollution will be directly transmitted to the light strip, which can easily cause the strip lights to burn out.
The quality is uneven, and it is very easy to buy a high-voltage strip lights of poor quality. For example: a flexible version as thin as a cicada's wing, low-brightness lamp beads, iron or aluminum wires.

Low voltage constant voltage strip light

Low voltage is relative to high voltage, and is generally powered by DC. The voltages are as follows: 5V, 12V, 24V, 36V, and 48V.

Constant voltage means that a transformer with constant voltage output is required to provide DC power with a stable voltage for the light strip.

The principle of the strip lights is that the lamp beads are generally connected in series with resistors, and the voltage at both ends is exactly the set constant voltage input voltage. The purpose of the resistor is generally to limit the current. There are also constant current transistors or constant current ICs that are directly used. Then all are spliced to the main positive and negative poles.

Low voltage light strips are generally cut from 33mm-100mm.

Low voltage constant current strip light

Low voltage generally sets the input voltage between 22-40V.

Constant current means that a constant current driver is required to provide DC power with a stable current for the light strip.

The principle of the strip lights is generally to string the lamp beads together directly without resistors, transistors or ICs, and then connect them to the main positive and negative poles. The voltage of each section of the strip lights is basically the same, but the total current needs to be set according to the rated current of the lamp beads, as well as the heat dissipation conditions, etc.

Low-voltage constant current light strips have many advantages:

There are no resistors, transistors, diodes, etc., so the luminous efficiency is high. This means that with the same power and the same lamp beads, constant current light strips will be brighter than constant voltage light strips.
The voltage is often higher, and the constant current is generally set between 30-36VDC; while the commonly used low-voltage constant voltage light strips are generally 12VDC, so the voltage drop on the strip lights will be less than that of the constant voltage 12VDC light strip, and the brightness at the head and tail will be more uniform.
The power, brightness, and even control of the strip lights are all adjustable, and they can be achieved by matching different constant current drivers. The constant voltage strip lights basically cannot be changed.
The only difficulty of using constant current light strips compared to constant voltage light strips is that you need to be familiar with LED drivers and can buy them at will.

According to the color of the light

The color of the light includes color temperature, color, and change

Color temperature

Installing black body color temperature, we associate the measured color temperature of LED with black body color temperature according to the relevant color temperature, so LED is generally called relevant color temperature. It is generally made of blue light chip and made of different proportions of phosphor.

Below 2000K, red and yellow, such as the color of the setting sun

2200-2700K, golden yellow, color temperature is orange

2800-3500K, generally based on 3000K, called warm light, (also called warm white light)

3500-4200K, based on 4000K, called natural light. (Some people also call this warm white light)

4500-5500K, white light, suitable for office, reading, etc. However, there are not many choices of lamp beads in this color temperature range.

5800-6800K, cold white light, white light in the general sense, are all in this color temperature range, with a benchmark of 6500K.

7000-8000K, which is colder than 6500K and has a bluish feel. This color temperature is generally not needed for home use. However, some special scenes, such as jewelry lights, require it.

Above 9000K, it is already in the range of blue to purple, and the ultraviolet part is in the UVA and UVB sections. It belongs to special usage scenarios, such as aquariums, mosquito trapping, ultraviolet disinfection, etc.

Color system

Colored light in the general sense, emitted by an LED chip bracket that directly emits this color light.

Commonly used colors are: red, yellow (different from the yellow of warm white), blue, green, purple, ice blue, pink, amber, etc.

Variable system

It is a strip lights that can emit multiple colors of light at the same time.

For the most part, there are:

RGB, which is what we often call colorful light strips

RGBW, which is RGB plus a color temperature color, such as: RGB+3000K, RGB+6500K

RGBWW, which is RGB plus two color temperature colors, such as: RGB+3000K+6500K.

By the way, when the 3000K and 6500K color temperature are on at the same time, the color temperature of 4000K can be obtained by mixing the light.

According to the control method of the light strip

The most common one is the on/off mode, which is on when connected to the power and off when not connected.

ON/OFF

That is, single color temperature on/off;

If there is dual color temperature on the light strip, there can be dual color temperature on/off;

Dimming and color adjustment

Through single and dual color temperature on/off, we can also control dimming and color temperature through control methods such as thyristor, 0/1-10V, DALI, Bluetooth, zigbee, 2.4G, etc.

RGB seven colors

Next, it is the RGB seven color control, which is generally a 4-wire RGB light strip, which can perform 7 colors of slow change, fast change, jump change and other effects at the same time, generally through a preset controller.

DPI series signal

RGB fantasy DPI series signal control, generally a 3-wire light strip, and all have IC addressable, which can achieve gradual effects such as horse racing and chasing. It can be set and controlled through the DPI controller.

DMX512 signal

DMX512 control is to use the DMZX512 protocol to perform addressable control of the light strip. Generally, it is a 5-wire light strip, 2-wire power supply, and 3-wire control.

Human body sensing

Use infrared or radar probes to sense human bodies. If someone moves, the light will turn on for 40-50s; if someone still moves during this period, the time will be accumulated; if no movement is detected, the light will turn off after 40-50s. This function is very practical, can save energy, and is relatively smart.

Hand sweep sensing

Within 5cm of the sensing probe, you can control the switch of the strip lights by sweeping your hand horizontally. This is generally used on cabinet lights. When you hold a pot and a spatula in both hands, then sweeping becomes very practical.

Door sensing

Similar to hand sweep sensing, the sensor head will detect whether there are obstacles within a distance of 3-5cm. If there are obstacles, the light will turn off; if there are no obstacles, the light will turn on. This is often used in wardrobes, cabinets, or other places with doors. The light turns on when the door is opened, and the light automatically turns off when the door is closed. It is smart and energy-saving. You will love it.

By material shape

This classification may be a bit repetitive, so I won’t go into details. Generally, it includes some special forms of light strips;

For example:

S type

S-shaped bare board strip lights, because the base plate is installed in S shape, it can be bent moderately in the horizontal direction.

Hard strip lights

Install the strip lights on the aluminum profile. With different aluminum profiles, it can be used in shelves, wardrobes, baseboards, ceiling lines, etc.

Single-sided light

Generally speaking, strip lights are single-sided and emit light in two directions: front light and side light. The main difference lies in the structure of the silicone sleeve.

Double-sided light

In some special applications, the substrate has lamp beads on the top and bottom, so it can emit light from both sides.

360° full illumination

By using a round silicone sleeve and an upper and lower strip lights, you can create a 360° fully luminous strip lights.
